PE PGCE

Postby Micky D on Thu Aug 27, 2009 10:23 am

Hello

I recently got made redundant which made me really sit down and think about what career i would like to do.

I have always loved the idea of being a PE teacher but don't think i am qualified.

I believe i need a degree in a 'relative' subject yet my degree is in Marketing.

Is there any courses i could do in order for me to be eligible to partake in a PE PGCE in 2010?

Thanks

Hi,

Only just seen your post.

This might not particularly help, but it certainly will give you an idea that it is possible. I would generally say no, without a sport related degree, you wouldn't be able to teach PE but I was recently on an athletics coaching course with a guy, probably in his 30s, who was a primary school teacher with a business degree, who'd been accepted onto a GTP for PE. So with that in mind, it's certainly possible. Maybe it's worth contacting universities for the PGCE/GTP to see if they'd accept you. I've heard stories of people teaching subjects they only had an A-Level in, so it's worth looking into.
