Can I convert to Primary once I've commenced a secondary PGC

Postby mrt1987 on Wed Apr 14, 2010 12:25 am

Hi,

I'm starting a PGCE in Business and ICT Education in September, which I'm really excited about. However, if I start the course and realise that I would prefer to teach Primary Education, is it possible to change courses? Are the requirements different?

I'm not saying that I want to change but I'd just like to keep my options open.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

I think you need to ask your course provider. However, I think that it will be a lot of hassle changing as you would have to prove everything you said in your personal statement was wrong and now you want to go into primary....which many universities might find suprising. Changing courses half way will probably be impossible. What I would say is I know a lot of teachers who have trained in secondary and completed their NQT year and then decided they wanted to go into primary and completed this transition well.
Hope that helps!
