PGCE Secondary Art & Design Courses

Postby louise-goodwin on Wed Oct 05, 2011 12:50 pm

Hello everyone.

After graduating last year with a degree is communication design, and having a year in industry in London (which I found v unrewarding) I've decided to apply for a PGCE in Art and Design for 11-18 yr olds. I understand all the requirements and process etc etc but am wondering which course to apply for? Seeing as I'll be paying out the nose for it now (2012 start) I want it to be worth it!

Has anyone got any experiences with Art and design PGCE courses, universities, or reviews be they good or bad?!

I'm currently looking at Birmingham city as my first choice, anyone completed their PGCE art and design course? If so was it good?

Also, in terms of application, I will have 2 weeks experience in secondary schools, but as I decided to apply for a teaching course this September have no previous experience of working with children, do you think this will be a disadvantage?

As my application has to be in by December I need to shift it up a gear so any help is much appreciated!!

Cheers!

Hello,

I too have very similar questions,

I am looking for a PGCE in Art and Design (2012) also, I am looking at Birmingham and Manchester mostly so if anyone has any information that they could pass on about those courses then that would be really useful.

I have also been looking at a course in Bangor, where you can do a PGCE in Art and Outdoor Education... is it best to stick to the one subject (Art) or to have a second specialism? and would a PGCE in outdoor education be worthwhile? If anyone has done this in Bangor then please do help!

Thanks,

Jayne

Hello!

I'm looking to do a Secondary Art & Design PGCE course at maybe Manchester, Birmingham and Cumbria. I'm open to doing a part time PGCE as it will allow me to still work.

I have got a degree in Fine Art and I currently work for an independent arts organisation and teach arts & craft related private tuition, workshops and parties to 5-11's.

I would be grateful to get any advice on where is best to attend? Deadlines? I'm a little confused if I've missed this years or do I need to wait till 2013 start?

Cheers!
