Masters before starting teacher training?

Postby Nate93 on Sun Dec 01, 2019 11:19 pm

Hi everyone, I have a question which I'm not sure where to post so if moderator reads this please feel free to move the thread somewhere more appropriate :)

So basically I've been teaching English as a second language in Spain for nearly 5 years, and I want to eventually want to come back to the UK to teach Spanish in secondary schools. I've now been in Spain long enough to apply for permanent residency which means I can study at a public University extremely cheaply.

Would it be beneficial to my career to get a masters degree in something along the lines of English/Spanish translation before doing a PGCE in the UK? I could specialise in science, literature or legal terminology which would improve my general knowledge in these areas. By beneficial, I'm referring to my chances of getting work in schools in an area of my choosing and getting promoted in the future.

Thanks in advance,

~Nate
