Teaching in Dubai - need advice!

Postby Londongirl on Thu Jan 22, 2015 1:49 pm

I'm wanting to teach abroad for the first time, which is quite scary! I have found this job in Dubai, and it looks great.

I want to be able to save some money while I am there. I know Dubai is tax free, but I am sure the cost of living is high! How much do I need to earn, to save a bit and have a life?
I will call this company, what type of questions do I need to ask them? Thanks to anyone you can help! :D

They might have a ready-prepared guide to working abroad?

Will you need a car when you get there?
You need to check up on emergency health care/tax/pension scheme.
What else will they provide with regard to materials you will need for teaching?
What will you need to take with you?
Ask whether they have a course prepared or whether you need to design it yourself.

Check up on what you are allowed to take into the country. I think some British over-the-counter medicines are illegal there.

Thank you for the good advice! I have called the company - and they were really great! Looks like the savings potential is there and the curriculum is the UK National Curriculum. I have sent them my CV so fingers crossed.

I wish you lots of luck!

Let us know how you get on.

How lucky that their curriculum is the same.

There are leaflets to be found in doctors' surgeries and libraries regarding travelling abroad with medical advice and how to keep yourself safe.

Ask your bank as well about how to transfer money, etc.
