Do Learning Support Assistants have to go on trips?

Postby First_bike on Tue May 04, 2021 11:04 pm

Hi everyone,

So I’m currently waiting to hear back from a job interview I had for a learning support assistant in a secondary school.

The school itself boasts about going on residential trips to places like China, New York etc, but the thing is, I’m absolutely petrified of flying! I’ve only ever flown once and I fainted at the airport I was so scared. I also have an anxiety disorder so I have panic attacks too.

My question really is it compulsory for learning support assistants to go on residential trips? I wouldn’t mind doing anything in the UK but I just absolutely can’t get on a plane! Surely if I explain my situation they wouldn’t force me to go?

Sorry if this sounds pathetic, I’m just debating whether this will be the role for me if it means doing something I’m unable to do.
