Handing in notice

Hi,

I'm an NQT who has taken a year out in industry post completing my PGCE. I have recently accepted a teaching post starting in Sept 2022. I've had a provisional offer in writing and the DBS results have just come back. The recruitment process is taking a considerable amount of time to receive an actual firm contract, which I want before I hand my notice in. My notice period is getting closer and closer. Do teachers usually hand their notice in before receiving a firm contract? If I had been working as a teacher currently there's no way I could have met the notice period?

Any advice gratefully recieved.
